The White Lilac: Kenosha’s Hidden Stage with a Big Soul
Tucked along 6th Avenue in downtown Kenosha, The White Lilac isn’t your typical music venue — it’s a one-room sanctuary where music, art, and storytelling bloom in their most intimate form.
The White Lilac was founded in 2023 by Kelly Mackay and Barbie Clarke — two local creatives with a shared mission: to build a space in Kenosha where performance, storytelling, and artistry could flourish without pretense or barriers.

Kyshona
Kelly, a longtime music promoter with a deep history of working with independent musicians, had always dreamed of creating a true listening room — where sound quality, intimacy, and artistic integrity came first. Barbie, a multidisciplinary artist and community activist, brought the soul of the project: a focus on inclusion, equity, and creating a safe, welcoming space for artists and audiences alike.
Together, they opened The White Lilac in a modest storefront at 5029 6th Avenue. With just 50 seats and a no-frills aesthetic, the venue has quickly become a hidden gem — beloved by performers for its attentive crowds and warm atmosphere, and by audiences for its world-class programming right in the heart of downtown Kenosha.

But what truly defines The White Lilac is the experience. Reviews consistently highlight its warmth and clarity — “very intimate venue with good sound and lighting,” wrote one attendee. Others praise its affordability, free popcorn, and the welcoming feel of Mackay and crew. This is a venue where “you don’t need earplugs,” and where the energy is fueled as much by conversation and connection as it is by chords and choruses.
Even the venue’s name carries a kind of poetic charm: it came from a misidentified plant out front — not actually a lilac, but close enough in spirit. The name stuck, a symbol of the place itself: humble, mysterious, and unexpectedly beautiful.
